The colosseum is first of all the largest amphitheatre ever built in the roman empire and one of the top Italian tourist attraction. Its construction started under the emperor Vespasian in 72 AD in the site of the former Nero's golden House, known as the Domus Aurea. Originally, it was called Flavian Amphitheatre, simply because the Vespasian's Family name was Flavius. The colosseum was inaugurated by Vespasian's son Titus, in 80 AD.

The Arch of Septimius Severus is one of the two remaining triumphal arches of the Roman Forum. It spans the Via Sacra on the route of the triumphal processions just before the ascent of the Capitoline Hill towards the Temple of Jupiter. The triumphal arch was built in 203 A.D. to commemorate the two victories of emperor Septimius Severus and his sons Caracalla and Geta in the former Parthia (now mostly Iran territory).

The Arch of Constantine is a large triumphal arch which is located between the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill. This arch is religiously very important because it commemorates the battle that led the Emperor Constantine to convert to Christianity. This battle has in fact changed the religious landscape of either the Roman empire and the western world.

The Arco di Tito (Arch of Titus) is situated at the highest point of the holy Street, the Via Sacra and was erected by Domitian, just after the death of his brother Titus in AD 81. The arch commemorates the sack of Jerusalem in 70 AD after the great Jewish revolt.
